Festa do Boi:
Between May and June, coinciding with Corpus Christi, Allariz celebrates the Festa do Boi, declared of Galician Tourist Interest. Its origin dates back to 1317, when Xan de Arzúa, riding on an ox, managed to restore harmony during the procession, putting an end to disrespectful behaviour by some members of the Jewish community. Since 1988, the Xan de Arzúa Association has organised this tradition with more than 70 activities over nine days, including music, theatre, children’s games and the famous ox races, which remain the main attraction of the event.
Museums and Heritage:
• Museo Galego do Xoguete: housed in a 17th-century manor house, it preserves toys and games from different eras, mostly donated by local residents.
• Museo do Coiro: the former leather tannery of the Nogueiras family, dating back to the 18th century, reflects the historical importance of leatherwork in Allariz.
• Historic quarter: declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1971, it combines cobbled streets, medieval buildings and award-winning restorations, offering a stroll between history and contemporary life.
