An old embassy in the heart of Cádiz
In the heart of Cádiz's historic centre, Áurea Casa Palacio Sagasta occupies a Baroque palace house built in the mid-18th century and subsequently remodelled in the style of the Isabella II period. The building retains some of the most distinctive features of Cádiz's bourgeois architecture, including its central courtyard, monumental two-flight staircase and imposing lookout tower, one of the city's most emblematic.
The building's history is closely intertwined with that of Cádiz. During the Peninsular War, it housed the British Consulate and Embassy and welcomed Sir Richard Wellesley, brother of the Duke of Wellington. In the mid-19th century, Don Benito Cuesta acquired the property and undertook its transformation in the style of the Isabella II period, numerous details of which remain preserved today.
Its location on Calle Sagasta makes it easy to explore Cádiz's old town on foot. Tavira Tower is just 300 metres away, while Cádiz Cathedral is 700 metres from the hotel, providing convenient access to some of the city's main attractions. The rooms, overlooking either Calle Sagasta or Callejón del Tinte, complete the experience of staying in a historic hotel deeply connected to Cádiz's architecture and identity.

This eighteen-century Palace House played a pivotal role in Spanish history. During the Peninsular War (1808–1814), the original building housed the British Embassy, the location of which was crucial in defending Cádiz and delivering supplies to it by sea.
