Explore one of Andorra’s most iconic glacial landscapes with this mid-mountain circular route. An accessible trail that takes you through a chain of glacial lakes surrounded by spectacular natural scenery.
Route details:
-Type: Circular
-Distance: 8–8.5 km
-Estimated duration: 3–4 hours (including breaks)
-Maximum altitude: ~2,500 m
-Difficulty: Low to medium (rocky terrain and moderate sections; good footwear recommended, caution with children)
Route:
-Departure from El Cubil parking: The route starts at the El Cubil car park, following a forest track that gently ascends to Estany Primer, located at around 2,300 meters. In summer, you can take a taxi-bus to save about 200 meters of elevation and 30 minutes of walking.
-Estany Primer and ascent via GRP/GR7: From here, follow the trail marked by GRP/GR7 around the lake and gradually ascend to the upper lakes: Forcat, Rodó, Meligar, Fonts, and Cap dels Pessons. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views of the glacial cirque.
-Cap dels Pessons: This is the highest point of the route, offering a privileged panoramic view of the entire lake chain.
-Circular descent: From Fonts lake, you can take a detour to the Solana Lakes, a variant that crosses small hidden lagoons between valleys. From there, the trail returns to Estany Primer.
-Return to parking: The return can be made via the same forest track or along an alternative path through the woods, avoiding the main trail and enjoying a more natural setting.
