María Pita Festivities. The most recognized character in A Coruña is María Pita, who persists in the memory for being the heroine that defended the city during the attack of the English Army directed by the captain Francis Drake in 1589.

During this event, a parade of stooge figures with large heads goes through the town between the music of bagpipes, horns, drums and other instruments.
