Florentine Calcio


During the month of June, the most important matches are played on June 24th

Although football was born in the British Isles, there is a similar game, only tough and violent known as calcio storico fiorentino, which has medieval and popular origins.

In the Florentine calcio, Florentine rivalries are highlighted by 4 teams representing different areas of the city. The 27 players in each team aim to score more goals than the opposing team, and they can do with their hands and feet while opponents hit and are hit by them.

Palio of Siena
The Palio di Provenzano is on July 2nd while the Palio dell'Assunta on August 16th.

With medieval origin, the Palio is one of the oldest horse races in the world, and is held in the famous Piazza del Campo in Siena. In the Palio, the implausibility of the competition is the norm. In the horse race both a riderless horse and one mounted can win, the 3 laps of the course must be run clockwise and counter participants are drawn.
